January 11, 2009 ~ Friendship Tournament ~ Salem Hoop

After 3 weeks off for weather conditions and holidays, nerves were to be expected at our first tournament of the New Year. It was a bit of a slow start for many teams there, but our Crew team picked it up quickly. We were nearly undefeated in pool play and from game 1 to game 3 you could see these girls begin to click. We had a come from behind 8 point serving run from Cassie, incredible offense by Erin and defense by all. With a close loss in the final set, we took second in our pool. In the first round of the championship bracket we matched up against a very strong Alpine team. Our first tournament began taking its toll on us and we were running low on steam. We put up a good fight with some scrappy moves and some strong plays, but fell to Alpine.
 
I am so impressed with the team’s development that I saw in the day’s play alone. It leaves me even more excited for the season to come. We have a great group of athletes with fantastic attitudes that will lead us to a successful season.

Honorable mention for the tournament goes to Miss Erin! Our returning middle hit the court ready to make an impact and fell nothing shy of it. She was not only a force at the net but a threat as a server and nothing was hitting the floor while she was defending the back court. Her intelligent play found holes in the opponents’ defense which led us to multiple victories. Thank you Erin!
