Pacific 14's Crew - Rose City Friendship Tournament January 6th 2007
Saturday the 14s Crew team kicked off the tournament season at Central Catholic High School in the Rose City Tournament. The first match of the day was against PVC-Red, one of the toughest teams in our age division. Our girls started off a little nervous but by the second set they shook off those nerves and had some good rallies. Throughout the day we tried some different lineups and the girls adjusted well. They had a solid game against Alpine to take 2nd in their pool
After a long afternoon of waiting, broken up with intermittent dancing in the hallways, and losing 3 teammates to prior engagements, the girls stepped up and came out strong against PVC and Alpine to win their bracket. They kept great attitudes on and off court throughout the day. Their skills improved as the day progressed with strong hitting, good net play and solid defense. This was a great starting point to see where we are at as a team. I am so excited about the potential we possess. We have a great group of hard working girls with skill and a drive to succeed; makes for an excellent combination. We had a solid day overall. I’m proud of this Crew team and looking forward to the season to come!
Honorable Mention
The first tournament of the season can be a bit scattered with girls adjusting to each other and working out their nerves, but Sammy stepped on the court and showed no fear. She picked up some strong digs from an aggressive hitting PVC-Red team. Sammy did an excellent job of reading the hitters and defending the ball. She made some great saves throughout the day. Her hustle and determination was a strong part of the success of our team. Great job Sammy!
