Pacific 18's Thunder - Power League Qualifier 01/06/2007 @ Boy's and Girl's Club / Albany

The Season is now underway. What a learning experience Saturday was for the "Thunder"! As we stepped onto the court, it was pretty obvious that we had a bit of "...deer caught in headlights" going. The pace of the game and the speed of the ball at the 18's level is a whole new ballgame for most of the team.

Having said that, I was pleasantly surprised at how we adjusted to the speed rather quickly and put up a fight. There is so much to be encouraged about this team. The chemistry that exists on this team off the court is very good to see. It is now time to display that on the court as well. I have no doubt how good this team will be become. We just have to understand that all it will take is a lot of sweat and hard work.

The best match of the day (even though we lost) was definitely against Rimrock. We ran our plays, hustled after everything and battled at the net. Once we understand that control of the net is everything at this level, we will really start to compete.

We have our work cut out for us over the next few months, but I am happy to state that we are going to be a whole lot better very shortly.

Honorable Mention

Alex did a very good job of working the ball to all of her hitters. She kept her cool and head on straight and never panicked. It is important to have a steady hand at the setting position and Alex is doing a good job there. Megan D., my hat is off to you for trying so hard to keep on playing despite the pain. Your were a big part of our competitiveness against Rimrock. Get well soon, we need you out there.

Meagan A. and Traci P., we are asking you to play different positions all the time. Way to keep your heads in the game and to do what is asked of you. Martie M., good job back there. You are learning my meaning when I tell you to watch the hitters first and then the ball. Good job to all. Now, let's get to work!

"You have to be willing to accept the information, you have to be willing to work hard. You have to be motivated to go to practice with an open mind. You have to be willing to be criticized. Only you can do those things."
